Mission

The school’s mission is to provide a quality dance program that offers classical ballet and contemporary dance.
The teachers are committed to giving back to dance what they themselves have received through their own training,  the quality of the program being cultured in a philosophy of lifelong learning and support for students who wish to pursue advanced studies.
The program is designed to be affordable for all levels of dancers, from recreational through to those who aspire to a career in dance, as well as being accessible to both urban and rural residents in south-west Quebec.

Vision

The school is founded on a love of dance as a physical, emotional and spiritual art form.
We endeavour to teach students to express themselves through dance by studying movement, music and creative expression and by developing a strong technique.  Through the presentation of Ballets and dance recitals we hope to develop self-esteem in our students and a greater appreciation of dance in the region.

ABOUT US

In 1980 Neva Shelton decided to expand her small group of ballet students and offer classes throughout the Haut St-Laurent. She established l'École de danse Neva Shelton offering classes in classical ballet, pre-ballet and contemporary dance in three communities -  Ormstown, Huntingdon and St-Chrysostome.

The school now offers classes in  Valleyfield, Ormstown, Hemmingford and Huntingdon. Our dancers have pursued their professional training  at such schools as l'École supérieure de ballet du Québec, l'École de danse de Québec,  National Ballet School (Toronto), Mercyhurst College (Ohio), Skidmore College (N.Y.), Divertimento (Montreal) and Quinte Ballet School (Belleville).

Our 'Parents' and Teachers' Committee' helps to organize our shows, make scenery and costumes and manage the backstage.  Surplus funds helps us to finance our shows and are also given out as scholarships. We present the "Nutcracker" every two or three years.

Serious students may also take exams with the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
