NEVA SHELTON'S DANCE SCHOOL

Francais

COVID-19

Presently classes are being offer online only

Dear family members of our dance school,

We want to assure you that we adhere to the government's directives for the current situation. The health and well-being of our students, their families and our staff is our top priority. We will continue to monitor and implement local, provincial and federal recommendations as they are announced. We are proud to continue our classes and would like to highlight the policies that will be in place to help our dance families stay healthy and safe.

Prevention in the Studios

HAND WASHING
Disinfection stations will be installed at the front door of each studio.

 SOCIAL DISTANCING
Two (2) metre social distancing will be respected. Each dancer will have an assigned, clearly delineate space.

 ONE-WAY TRAFFIC
A system of arrows will be put in place to facilitate flow at studios and avoid close contact.

THOROUGH CLEANING
Between each group, any area at risk will be thoroughly disinfected.

 STAFF
all teachers and assistants will wear visors or masks.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
PREPARE YOUR COVID KIT:
  • Indoor shoes only. You will be asked to leave your outdoor shoes at the door.
  • Hydro-alcoholic hand sanitizing gel
  • Tissues (Kleenex)
  • Personal water bottle
  • Clean dance-wear washed between each class.
  • Backpack or tightly closed bag

Do not send your child to class if she, or a family member, is sick.

Do not break any formal quarantine/government restrictions.

Encourage your child to cough and sneeze into the elbow, not into the hand.

ALERT US IMMEDIATELY IF A STUDENT HAS CONTRACTED COVID.

For children under 10 years old - Each family is encouraged to make their own decision about wearing the child's mask. At the present time this will not be mandatory for these students due to respected social distancing and the strict measures taken by staff (this may change depending on government regulations). Students 10 and older will be asked to wear masks unless they can not for a medical reason.
Please be aware that we are here to answer your questions or concerns, and we are happy to hear suggestions from you on other ways to keep our community healthy!

Mission

The school’s mission is to provide a quality dance program that offers classical ballet and contemporary dance.
The teachers are committed to giving back to dance what they themselves have received through their own training,  the quality of the program being cultured in a philosophy of lifelong learning and support for students who wish to pursue advanced studies.
The program is designed to be affordable for all levels of dancers, from recreational through to those who aspire to a career in dance, as well as being accessible to both urban and rural residents in south-west Quebec.

Vision

The school is founded on a love of dance as a physical, emotional and spiritual art form.
We endeavour to teach students to express themselves through dance by studying movement, music and creative expression and by developing a strong technique.  Through the presentation of Ballets and dance recitals we hope to develop self-esteem in our students and a greater appreciation of dance in the region.

ABOUT US

In 1980 Neva Shelton decided to expand her small group of ballet students and offer classes throughout the Haut St-Laurent. She established l'École de danse Neva Shelton offering classes in classical ballet, pre-ballet and contemporary dance in three communities -  Ormstown, Huntingdon and St-Chrysostome.

The school now offers classes in  Valleyfield, Ormstown and Huntingdon. Our dancers have pursued their professional training  at such schools as l'École supérieure de ballet du Québec, l'École de danse de Québec,  National Ballet School (Toronto), Mercyhurst College (Ohio), Skidmore College (N.Y.), Divertimento (Montreal) and Quinte Ballet School (Belleville).

Our 'Parents' Committee' helps to organize our shows, make scenery and costumes and manage the backstage.  Surplus funds helps us to finance our shows and are also given out as scholarships. We present the "Nutcracker" every two or three years.

Serious students may also take exams with the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
